Terms of use

The ground rules for using Ripple, written plainly.

Last updated

Ripple is an independent early-stage project created and operated by Mariia Kindratyshyn and Arshia Farshchi Sharif. In these terms, “Ripple”, “we” and “us” refer to those operators.

Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@rippleau.com.

When these terms apply

These terms apply when you use rippleau.com, create or use a Ripple account, record help, respond to a confirmation request or otherwise interact with Ripple.

By using Ripple, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and forms part of these terms.

Who Ripple is for

Ripple’s first version is intended for adults aged 18 and over in Australia.

You must not use Ripple or submit information about another person if you are under 18.

If you use Ripple on behalf of another person or organisation, you must have authority to do so and to accept these terms on their behalf.

What Ripple does

Ripple is a free service for recording career-related help between people who already know each other.

The current kinds of help are:

  • mentorship and advice;
  • AI and technology upskilling;
  • referrals and introductions; and
  • job opportunities.

A person records help and provides the recipient’s first name and email address. Ripple sends the recipient a private confirmation request. The help can enter Ripple’s impact count only if the recipient confirms it.

Ripple may show privacy-protected totals and aggregate trends. We do not publish recipient names, email addresses or individual help records.

What Ripple does not do

Ripple does not:

  • find or select people for you to help;
  • act as an employer, recruiter, employment agency or professional adviser;
  • guarantee a job, referral, introduction, response or other outcome;
  • verify the quality or value of help;
  • perform identity, qualification, employment or background checks;
  • handle payments, loans or paid work; or
  • provide medical, legal, financial, counselling, crisis or emergency services.

Any relationship, conversation, introduction or opportunity between people exists independently of Ripple. Use your own judgement before relying on information or taking action.

Your responsibilities

When you use Ripple, you must:

  • provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
  • use an email address you are authorised to use for your account;
  • record only genuine help that you have provided or genuinely intend to provide;
  • provide another person’s email address only where they would reasonably expect to receive a confirmation request;
  • describe the kind of help honestly;
  • keep sign-in and confirmation links private; and
  • tell us promptly if you believe your account or a private link has been misused.

You must not:

  • impersonate another person;
  • confirm help for yourself or arrange false confirmations;
  • create duplicate, misleading or fabricated records to influence Ripple’s count;
  • use Ripple to spam, pressure, harass, threaten or deceive anyone;
  • submit information about a person under 18;
  • submit passwords, payment details, government identifiers, health information or other unnecessary sensitive information;
  • attempt to access another person’s account, records or private links;
  • scrape, probe, disrupt or interfere with Ripple or its security;
  • introduce malicious code; or
  • use Ripple for unlawful activity.

Confirmation belongs to the recipient

A recipient does not need an account to respond to a confirmation request.

The recipient may confirm that the help happened, say that the record does not really describe what happened, or say that it did not happen.

The recipient should answer honestly. A giver must not pressure or reward a recipient for confirming.

Receiving help does not create a debt or an obligation to help someone else. Opening a door for another person is always voluntary.

What counts

A help record does not enter the public impact count merely because it was submitted or because an email was sent.

Confirmation by the recipient is required. A confirmed record may still be held for review or excluded where necessary to protect the integrity of the count, investigate suspected misuse, correct an error or comply with law.

Ripple counts:

  • each distinct confirmed recipient once in the “people helped” total; and
  • each eligible confirmed act in the “confirmed help” total.

Public figures may be delayed while records are processed or reviewed. If reliable figures are unavailable, Ripple may show them as unavailable rather than estimate or invent a value.

Accounts and sign-in links

Ripple uses email-based sign-in. You are responsible for protecting access to your email account, device and sign-in links.

Do not forward a sign-in link or use a link intended for someone else.

We may invalidate links, end sessions or require another sign-in where reasonably necessary for security.

Contact hello@rippleau.com if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission.

Privacy and another person’s information

If you give Ripple another person’s details, you confirm that:

  • the details relate to genuine help;
  • the person would reasonably expect the confirmation request; and
  • you are not providing more information than Ripple asks for.

You must not use Ripple as a mailing list, lead-generation tool or way to contact someone who would not reasonably expect the message.

Our Privacy Policy explains what Ripple collects, how recipient addresses are protected, what may become public and how to request access, correction or deletion.

Service integrity and moderation

We may take reasonable action to protect people, Ripple and the credibility of its public count. This may include:

  • holding a record out of the public count;
  • invalidating or replacing a confirmation link;
  • correcting an evident technical error;
  • restricting or suspending an account;
  • removing an unconfirmed record; or
  • preserving information where required by law or reasonably needed to investigate misuse.

Where appropriate, you can ask us to review a decision by emailing hello@rippleau.com.

Account deletion

You can request deletion through Ripple’s account settings or by contacting us.

Deletion does not necessarily remove an eligible act of help that has already been confirmed and counted. Ripple may retain a de-identified counted record so the public count remains accurate, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

Some protected information relating to a recipient may also remain where it is needed to recognise that recipient, prevent duplicate counting, honour another person’s confirmed record or meet a legal obligation.

Availability and changes to Ripple

Ripple is an early-stage service. We may reasonably change, pause or discontinue a feature to improve the service, protect security or privacy, comply with law, or respond to technical constraints.

We do not promise that Ripple will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We will try to communicate material interruptions or changes where practical.

If Ripple closes, we will handle retained personal information in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable law.

Intellectual property

Ripple’s design, software, branding and original content belong to its operators or are used with permission.

We give you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable permission to use Ripple for its intended purpose under these terms.

You may not copy, sell, sublicense or commercially exploit Ripple’s software, branding or original content without permission. This does not prevent ordinary linking, quotation, fair dealing or another use permitted by law.

Third-party services and links

Ripple relies on third-party providers for hosting, authentication and email delivery. The Privacy Policy identifies the providers currently used.

Ripple may also link to another website. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. A link does not mean that Ripple endorses that website or its operator.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when Ripple changes or when legal, security or operational requirements change.

We will change the “Last updated” date and, where practical, give reasonable notice of a material change.

If you do not agree with updated terms, you should stop using Ripple and may delete your account.

Resolving a concern

Please contact us first so we have an opportunity to understand and address the issue: hello@rippleau.com

Include enough information for us to identify the problem, but do not send passwords, sign-in links, confirmation links or unnecessary sensitive information.

These terms do not limit any right you may have to contact a regulator, obtain independent advice or use another remedy available under Australian law.
